Default how to hang heavy objects

We have an antique mirror, approx 3 ft x 4 ft, which is very heavy - what is the best way to secure it to the wall?

First make sure that the mirror has a strong enough wire in the back to hold its weight and that the wire is safely attached to the back of the mirror.

Then you must locate 2 studs in the area where you want your mirror mounted, and install 2 large hooks, supported by long enough nails/screws that go right into the studs. Make sure the two hooks are leveled.

Have someone helping you to set the mirror. Wipe it clean, and enjoy the view.

That's the obvious answer, but this mirror is so heavy it has a metal bar built into its back and takes 2 men to pick it up. Perhaps I am being over cautious, but this one needs to be 100% secure because it will be hung over the sofa. How about a "french cleat"?
