    Default kitchen exhaust fan

The backdraft damper behind the fan in ventilator doesn't close
when fan is on off. How do I get to damper and how to clean this damper so that it closes when not in use. I assume it doesn't close due to grease build up. It is difficult to find this information.
    Thanks

After disconnecting power to the fan, you can probably get at the damper by removing the fan motor and blades. It will be awkward at best, but probably enough access to get it cleaned up.

If the fan unit is not too heavy, you may be able to simply remove the whole works from the cabinet. Reinstalling it and lining it up to the ducting can be tricky.
