Shallow well pumps problems
Hello, We have a spring on our property that is the water supply for our home and some of our farm animals. The spring gravity feeds into a pump house with a cistern, then the pump sends the water up to the house. Our problem is, occasionally, my husband will turn on the water to fill the animal tank and forget he has turned it on. Of course, the cistern gets too low and the pump ends up running without any water which damages the pump. Is there any kind of device we can attach to our new shallow well pump that will automatically shut if off when there is no water moving through it? Also, sediment is a problem with the pressure switch. It gets sediment stuck in it at the diaphram, I think, and won't send a signal for the pump to engage. Is there something that will take care of keeping the sediment out of the switch? Thanks!
