There is no need for redundancy as the other members clearly articulated the safety tips, etc. for setting up your ladder.

Probably the most important thing to note is that before you even think about stepping from the ladder to the roof and visa-verse, be certain to tie your ladder off to the gutter through one of the gutter straps. By doing this you eliminate the possibility of the ladder sliding sideways and losing your balance.

I just wish to reassure you that as long as your ladder extends three feet above the gutter line and is securely tied off, the transition from ladder to roof, and roof to ladder is very safe for anyone. With the ladder extending up three feet it serves as a railing of sorts. NEVER try to access or exit the roof by climbing over the top of the uppermost rung on the ladder.
