    Default Ruined Laundry

I currently have a well but plan on hooking up to my cities water supply, my problem is: My laundry is coming out with what appears to be large rust spots. What causes this? What can I do to eliminate this problem?

What kind of pipes do you have?

And the rest of the house?

I would try a whole house water filter, installed on the main line coming into the house. The filter should be mounted indoors. Insert a rust stopping cartridge in it. See if it helps.

If the original plumbing to the home is steel pipe, you could be getting iron flakes into your laundry, which is causing the rust spots on the clothing. You could also have a high iron content in the well water.

If it's the pipes, then only replacing the pipes will cure the problem. If it's the water supply, then a filtering system will be the ticket.
