Default What is tile called that goes around the edge of the room?

I am looking to find some options for remodeling my bathroom. It is small but has tile along the edge against and along the wall. When I check out tile suppliers on the internet and don't see anything in regards to this so I am wondering where I might find it and what it is called? Just looking to see what is out there. The tile there now is rounded on the top and is about 6 inches tall and sticks out about 3/4 of an inch from the wall. Not sure what its called but can't seem to find it, just trying to get an idea what is now available my house was built in the 1940's. It is looking like what they use in commercial buildings around the edge of the floor like cove base but it is tile?

Any information would be helpful and any links to see what is available today.

    Thanks in Advance.

If it's along the bottom of the wall at the floor transition you might be looking for "sanitary base tile "

Here is a link to a tile glossary that might also be helpful http://www.besttile.com/index.php?page=glossary

Thumbs up Re: What is tile called that goes around the edge of the room?

Thanks, I have not find it but I guess it looks like that just wide / thicker But over time things change as most things back in 1940's is a lot different today like a true 2x4 was really 2x4 inches... I will do a search and see what I can find...

    Thanks!!!

Ive seen the tile before. The top looks thicker but I think it has a hollow pocket in the back. It was used in a lot of houses and motels in the southern states.

Take one off and take it to a flooring store.

There are two kinds of bullnose (may have different names, I'm not sure ). One is a flat tile with a single rounded corner for thinset bed installation.

The other is a tile with a single curved edge, creating a "hook" if you will, designed for a mortar bed installation.

There is also the sanitary base tile that Canuk posted that has an "S" shape to it.

if your looking for the tile in big box stores you'll be searching forever. your best bet is to go straight to a tile wholesaler that caters to contractors
