    Default Metal Roof

When installing a residential metal roof is it better to attach directly to the deck with an underlayment or use wood purlins?

Maybe it's a local thing, but around here the standing seam goes over 5/8" plywood, with red rosin paper in between.

I prefer using purlins to create a cool roof, that way the attic ceiling can be insulated if so desired.
