Question Smelly well water results when left idle

We have a problem with one of our cottages water. The water for all three cottages is from one well, this cottage is the only one that has smelly water. The water is softened by a Morton water softner and heated by gas.We stayed in that cottage for close to a year and had no problem, while rebuilding the second cottage, which we now live in. Without a constant use, we find a smell when either hot or cold water is used.Is there a reson for this?,I thought it might be the softner was over softning so I dopped it down one level of hardness. Little change. So is there any ideas I can try? Thank you for any help.

If it has a rotten egg smell, then check the hot water tank. There is an easy cure; add a few cups of ordinary bleach to the HWH. There are a few sites on the web that give great instructions on this including how to siphon the bleach into the tank the easy way.
