Post Water Hammering from clothes washer

I recently bought a new front end clothes washer. When something is put inside to be washed the washer will start adding water in small increments. The valve closes so fast that it causes the water pipes to "hammer". This was not a problem with our old unit. The back pressure is so bad it has damaged a new kitchen sink faucet located on the opposite side of the wall.

    Any suggestions on a cure?

this is what you need. They install between the laundry valves and the clothes washer.

johnjh2o's solution would be the easiest if it will fit your location. You will need one for each line. The only other solution would be to have inline arrestors installed.

The arrestors pictured do need to have the enclosed tube part facing upwards. Make sure your threaded water connection allows the proper positioning of the arrestor. If not, then the supply lines need to be altered to have some installed in-line.
