    Default Water Softener

I live in lower northern Michigan, I would like to install a water softener but I am on a well and septic system, where would the backflash water drain to because I always see that it can not go into the septic tank. Could the softener be installed in the well house? The well house is fully insulated.

Most softeners these days can be set up to use either sodium base salt or a potassium base product like "Natures Own". That is what I use and it can be discharged into the septic system or directly on the ground. It is not harmful to septic systems or plants. Yes it can be installed in a pump house as long as it is kept from freezing.
