Question two kitchen floors in one

The 12 x 14 foot kitchen add-on has its joists running in the opposite direction of the original kitchen joists. I want to install a hardwood floor with 5 inch wide planks (if possible) in random lengths all running in the same direction. There is a 1/2 inch subfloor on the entire surface. How would I do this?

The subfloor should be 3/4 tongue and groove, maybe you could add 3/8 or half inch plywood placed in the opposite direction as extra rigidity but flexing may still be a problem @ the seams of the subfloor length (8' side).
