Default Closed-cell spray insulation near water heater exhaust

I am having my garage ceiling sprayed with closed-cell insulation. My water heater is in the garage and the exhaust vent goes through the ceiling through the room above and out the roof. Question is, when they spray my ceiling, can they spray right up to the exhaust vent?

Your insulation contractor should know the code.
Generally, if the exhaust pipe is a *B* vent then insulation not fire rated can be within around 1 inch. If the exhaust pipe is a single wall *C* vent then non fire rated insulation can't be closer than around 6 inches.
This will vary by local building codes.
