Default installing PVC beadboard over existing porch ceiling

We live on the water and so naturally, our porch sees a lot of moisture. We wish to use AZEK or some other type of PVC beadboard on the ceiling. Is it necessary to remove the old beadboard before installation, or may we simply apply it directly over the existing ceiling? Can you foresee any problems with trapped moisture if we do?

i don't see any problem with going right over the old stuff at all. moisture should not be a problem.....does anyone disagree?

I'd probably do the same thing. Covering over the old stuff is OK if you don't have any moisture on it when you cover it up. If there is moisture, you may get some mold later on. This is kind of a tough time of the year to be doing this, if you're worried about moisture though.

If you do go ahead with it, make sure your joints are tight and if needed, don't be afraid to use caulk to seal the cracks. Paint will cover a lot of caulking.

    Good Luck.
