Question How to smooth walls previously covered with fake brick and mortar

I removed all the fake brick but it left an outline from the mortar aprox 1/2" thick where the joints were.
I tried Flex-all but was unable to smooth it out because of the old joints.
I prefer not to have to sand because it's in the kitchen and the mess of the dust going every where.
Does anyone have suggestions on how to smooth the wall and prep it for painting?

Sanding's about the only way I know to get rid of the joints. Hook up a shop vac and keep it running with the nozzle very close to where you're sanding and you might cut down on the dust in the kitchen.

    Good Luck.
