    Default vine for pergolas

a few weeks ago, Roger built a pergola and planted vines to grow over it. I didnt catch what kind he planted. If anyone know this or can recommend a vine that doesnt bear fruit or make a mess, I would like to know about it to grow over my pergola.

Might help out if you would tell what major city you are near. Some vines may not be hardy enough for your location.

A pergola is a garden feature forming a shaded walk or passageway of pillars that support cross-beams and a sturdy open lattice, upon which woody vines are trained. As a type of gazebo, it may also be an extension of a building, or serve as protection for an open terrace or a link between pavilions. The origin of the word is the Late Latin pergula, referring to a projecting eave.
