    Default Lally Column questions

    I recently bought a house and at some point 2 of the lally columns were taken out and replaced. the basement is basically unfinished and the other columns were boxed in wood. today i started demoing the basement and when i removed the boxed in columns i noticed they were alot bigger then the 2 that were replaced. is there a specific diameter they should be

    depends on what they're made of and what they're filled with. also depends on what they're supporting

    Most are 3 1/2" if there sitting under Steel/Iron I-Beams. Some are filled with cement some arent .

    I would imagine you will get all kinds of different answers. Construction techniques are different from one state to another.
