    Question Painting Paneling "Help"

    We planing to paint are paneling,and we need a little help on how to do this, the paneling is old.

    Wash the paneling well with a TSP solution (paint department of any hardware store ), rinse well, let completely dry.

    Prime with two coats Zinnser 1 2 3 (blue label ). If the paneling very dark, you may want to use a stain blocking primer such as Kilz (original, not Kilz 2 ) or Zinnser BIN (red label ). Finish off with two coats of a good quality paint, such as Sherwin Williams or Kelly Moore.
    I suffer from CDO ... Its like OCD, but in alphabetical order, LIKE IT SHOULD BE!!!

    Remember to scratch it up after cleaning it with a fine grade of sandpaper to give it "teeth" for the primer to stick to. You then have to wipe the walls down again to get rid of any sanding dust. If you fail to do this even the best primers will peel off in time. We did this with the hallways in our five story apartment building(about 6000 square feet and the finish is almost perfect ten years later.
