Default connecting a hanging light fixture

There is a manufactured identifying "ridge" along one side of the coated wiring coming from the fixture.

Does the ridged wire connect to the white or black wire coming out of the ceiling wires?

Thumbs up Re: connecting a hanging light fixture

On lamp cord, the identified conductor is the grounded conductor, also known as the neutral. It is typically connected to the white wire in the fixture box. Identification may be a raised line or a set of small ridges in the exterior of the insulation.
