Default Kitchen vent letting cold air in.

My kitchen vent pours cold air into the room. It's straight piped up through the attic and out the roof. I can't change the vent cover since it would tear up the roof shingles. Is there any type of damper I can splice into the pipe to stop the cold air? Or any other fix available?

A spring loaded backdraft damper in the duct might be just the thing.
It opens when the fan is on and closes when it's off.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks, I'll give that a try.
