Default Quarter Round / Base Shoe

Should the qrt round base shoe match the base trim or the floor?

Personal choice, IMHO if the base is painted, the shoe should match the floor. If the base is also a natural wood (but a different species or stain color), then it should match the base. In sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping the floor, you'll scuff and scrap the painted base/shoe with whatever implement you're using. Clear coated woods generally don't scuff and mark as easily as painted surfaces.

{Golly gee, go out of town for a while and you become a newbie!!**

I personally agree with Spruce, I think that a quarter round that matches the floor gives an elegant look.

Be careful though if ordering the quarter round prefinished from the maker of the flooring. Ask to see a sample before you order. If you go oak, cherry, walnut, etc, they all have perfectly matching quarter round, trim, and threshhold pieces. Trying to be a bit trendy and try something in flooring more colorful, more currently vogue? BEWARE...select a bleached beech, or a silver maple? Order the prefinished quarter rounds sight unseen and what you will get from some manufacturers is prefinished WHITE clad! Sure, it's a nice tight finish but if you were not planning on having a white baseboard, it can be quite a surprise!
