We just bought an apartment in a 4plex built in 1923. No one has lived in the apt for 30 years, and it was used for storage. Twelve years ago there was a leak that went on for a few months before it was detected. The leak caused the thin slat hardwood floors to buckle. Now upon pulling up the slats we find that some of the 8"w x 10l x.5"thick pine boards are rotten. How should we go about repairing the subfloors before put in new hardwood floors. Should we just replace the rotten boards, put down a vapor barrior, and then lay our hardwoods? Or should we also lay down a layer of plywood? Any advice would be appreciated.
