    Cool Deteriorated Brick Patio

Is it feasible to lay a one or one and a half inch of cement on top of an old brick patio? The brick is crumbling and flaking off to to old age. On top of the cement I would embed some river rock. Any thoughts one this idea?

The layer would have to be at least 2" thick to hold together, even then I think I'd recommend some wire reinforcement mesh like stucco wire. As far as embedding river rock, I'd keep it to pea gravel. You can either wash the top of the wet concrete to expose the aggregate or top seed the wet cement with the pea gravel of your choice, which would give you quite a few color options.
