    Default Rot-Free Window Sill

My new house was sided by the previous owner. It was done pretty well, but some of the windows have me concerned.

The aluminum trim that wraps the window sills has cracks and is pulling away from the window. It doesn't look like a metal-break was used to shape the trim either.

I'm contemplating replacing the trim and window sill with rot-free cellular PVC, but I don't know how to approach this, as the replacement window appears to overlap the sill (see attached pictures).

Being new to this kind of stuff, I'm hoping that someone can direct me to the proper way to handle this. Or tell me that I should just caulk the existing aluminum trim, replace the existing aluminum trim with new properly formed pieces, or something different altogether.

    Thanks for your help.
