Joist Hanger Nails
This is simply a question for my own edification. I have built a few decks and know that, by code, joist hangers must be attached to the ledger board and rim joists with "joist hanger nails". Why can't galvanized or some other kind of weather resistant screws be used?
Re: Joist Hanger Nails
screws don't generally have the shear strength of nails. They are obviously harder to pull out than a nail, but don't hold up as well in shear. With the new pressure treated lumber you may want to look at using SS fasteners and isolating the hangers from the lumber.
