    If your charger is draining your battery , then you need a new charger . The diodes in the charger should prevent any " backfeed " .

    You said flickering lights " on multiple circuits " . It would seem that if the problem was caused by the meter change out , ALL circuits would be affected . Go ahead and call them to rule it out .

    Here , if it's inside the home , it has to be black iron pipe , except for the actual hook up to the appliance . Check the code in your area .

    Since no real painters have responded , go to Lowe's or that other place , and look at the product literature on a similar door . It should tell you how to prep and paint it .

    Do a Google search for wood stoves , etc. I have seen metal heat deflectors used for this purpose .
