    Re: Water-damaged exterior wall

As a matter of fact, my father and I started the job Saturday afternoon and just completed the job this afternoon. The access through the siding was far better than I expected, and most of it was...

    Re: Water-damaged exterior wall

I neglected to mention that because that stud bay I opened up is in the corner, I can't go to the next stud bay to the right when replacing the sill plate, since there isn't one. Presumably I'd just...

    Re: Water-damaged exterior wall

Come to think of it, is there any real reason to replace sheathing that's inside the house, or should I only be concerned with the sheathing on areas that back up to the siding?

    Re: Water-damaged exterior wall

The plywood definitely extends below the roof line. Why, I don't know :(

In any event, attic access can be made to happen. There's no hatch on the lower floor to get in there, but there may be...

    Re: Water-damaged exterior wall

More pictures taken. I've outlined approximately where the wall in question falls. It looks as though a good chunk of that wall literally isn't accessible from the outside, and I'll probably have...

    Re: Water-damaged exterior wall

I'll snag you some more pictures tomorrow, but in short, this is the wall between an upper floor and a lower floor in a split level. The upper section of the wall should be accessible by simply...

    Re: Water-damaged exterior wall

    A. Spruce, actually, what I was saying was that the sheathing on that wall is only partially accessible from the outside by removing the siding. Looking at it, it seems that some of the lower...

    Re: Water-damaged exterior wall

So I'm wanting to do as much of this on my own as possible, since contractors are expensive and I haven't gone contractor shopping before, so I don't yet know which ones in my area are trustworthy. ...

    Re: Water-damaged exterior wall

Ah, that did it. Okay, pictures are linked in my last post. Let me know if you need more pictures or questions answered, but I'd really love to know how to deal with this problem.

Already have the images hosted, but I don't have the post count to allow me to add links to my posts on this board. Need 10 posts before I'm able to do that, apparently.

Heh. Can't send private messages either, as my post count isn't high enough. Any other suggestions?

    Re: Water-damaged exterior wall

Seems I'm having a problem doing that. I can't add links to my posts yet, and attempting to lower the size and quality of the images sufficiently to allow them to upload here eliminates virtually...

    Water-damaged exterior wall

So while remodeling a room, I've discovered that one of the exterior walls of my home has a hole in it that has apparently allowed water to get in and has rotted the plywood in the wall pretty badly....
