    On the farm we use a product called Remedy which mixes with diesel fuel and spray around the base of the trunk. It works on black locust and on mesquite trees.

    YEA!!!! The extend-a-magnet worked like a charm....pulled that battery right up. Only cost $5. Much less than a plumber would have cost. Thanks to all for their suggestions.
