You'll probably have to call a heating technician to come over and look at it.
It sounds like she has a hot water heat/boiler system, but it could be steam from the info stated in the post.
Some hot water heating and hot tap water service is combined in one boiler, but just as often there is a separate hot water heater fueled by gas, oil or electric.
Do you have more info as to the components involved?
Do you have any photos of the front of the boiler.
What does the temp gauge on the front of the boiler read (should be betweem 160 degrees to 200 degrees)???
