Crawl Space Insulation with dirt floor
Our home was built in 1854, 3/4 of the first floor is not insulated under the floors. We are not able to get under the house, the crawl space is less than 6" from the bottom of the floor joists. How can we insulate without tearing out the floors?
There is a dirt floor and natural stone foundation around the house. We have placed straw bales around the entire foundation, sealed with chalk around the sill plates, used the foam insulation to fill any visible openings in the stone foundation. But this past month in eastern Kansas we have had over 18" of snow, with temps way below zero. Before we put the straw around the house, our living room floor was 38 degrees.
We have been told there is a spray insulation that is moisture resistant.
