refinishing mantels from 1800's
hello every one, i am new here to this site.
i am working in a old victorian here in gainesville florida. this client has about six different mantels that im working for him.
i have completed three of them, and he likes my work so far, but the next 2 have varnish still on them, thy were all chemically stripped before i came there, but he had some one work on them and when he came home he had all of them stained and 2 of them with a coat of clear on them, needless to say that guy was off the job. so my con cern is with the ones that have clear on them, what would be the proper way to refinish them,? im trying to avoid using stripper because of the white residue that can build up and is difficult to come off.
we also have a silent stripper, which use's inferred heat
