a hardwood mess
i have a friend, average homeowner, who decided to take on the task of refinishing his hardwood floors himself. no sweat, right? ... right. after renting a drum sander twice, because he didnt fully remove all of the stain the first time, he called me today to tell me he thinks he may have to rent it a third time. he stained the floors with a rag but instead of wiping the stain off all the way with a dry rag, it seems he ran the same rag over the puddles of stain attempting to wipe the excess up. this left streaks all over the floor with stain so heavy in some spots that you cant see the grain of the wood. very poor researching on his part.
i know he runs the risk of wearing his floor boards too thin with over sanding.
does anybody out there have a sollution that doesnt require re-sanding?
Re: a hardwood mess
If it was stain and not a stain/sealer wiping the floor down with mineral spirits will usually remove the heavy excess stain.
