roof insulation in old timber frame
I have an old timber frame home (formerly a farm building) and I am refurbishing the second floor. The roof joists sit on the 8 or 9 inch timber and there is no place for eve vents, since there are no functioning eves. I have thought about drilling holes in the timbers to the outside to create a source for 'make-up air', forgetting the 'make-up air' situation and putting a double vapor barrier or vent the area behind the insulation with baffles knowing the darn house isn't air tight anyway. Any suggestions are appreciated. We are located in a cool zone 5 area.
